I'm writing regarding the article in Sunday's Minot Daily News regarding the actions of the Ward County Commission after the death of a jail inmate. Not only did they show
their complete lack of integrity in this matter but Walter saying "what I find interesting is the DOCR, they don't have to turn anything over on someone who died in their care,"...
But yet a druggie dies, and our sheriff is responsible. (That) shows a complete lack any empathy towards this young person and his family. Yes the sheriff is responsible for any
and all persons in his jail, not to mention riding all the way to Underwood in the passenger seat and never checking on the person in the back seat.
What a lack of common sense, dishonesty, deception, and the good old boy system of covering up is evident in the article.
Mr. Walters may have felt like a hero during the flood with his statement of "just boil the dam water" but this statement is unacceptable. Regardless of the choices this young
man opted for his life, he was still a human being and deserves to be referred to in a respectful manner. Was his life worth less because of his use of drugs? It appears at least
one member of the Ward County Commission believes this is true. Maybe it's time to overhaul the Ward County Commissioners like the City Council. Shame on you.

When I picked up the paper Sunday and read the article on the city commissioners statements regarding Dustin Irwin's death and the stories behind it.
I was appalled and very disgusted with the words used to describe a young man.
Let me just say if this were your child, brother or whatever would you feel the same way and make the statements as you did?
Do you think that since he was a "druggie" as you described him Mr. Walter that he was less of a person as you or any of the other commissioners?
Or your family members for that matter? Someone's child is dead and if it was Kukowskis fault then he should have gotten the same sentence as a murderer,
not given him wages for a year. Tax payers should have had a say in that. If I were that parent I could have used that money to not replace my son,
but to do something for others who are battling drugs or alcohol. I believe many families struggle with this horrible scenario, probably more then we know!
To conclude I just want to say shame on you for the statements you made!
